VLE Overview
We like to be innovative at Personal English, and give our students the best possible ways to achieve their goals in English.
Thus, sometime in October, hopefully, we will be launching our new and exciting virtual Learning Environment.
We will create online courses with opportunities for rich interaction where can contribute to the educational experience in many ways.such as making it possible for students to comment on entries in a database (or even to contribute entries themselves), or to work collaboratively in a wiki.
a constructivist and social constructionist approach to education, emphasizing that learners (and not just teachers) can contribute to the educational experience in many ways.
what is a virtual learning environment?
A VLE, also known as e-learning software platform, a Course Management System, or a Learning Management System,is a software system designed to support teaching and learning in an educational setting.
While originally created for distance education, VLEs are now most often used to supplement traditional face to face classroom activities, commonly known as Blended Learning.
Facilities
Our system will present to students, through a single, consistent, and intuitive interface, all the components required for a course of education or training. It will have all the following elements:
- The syllabus for the course
- A notice board for up-to-date course information
- Student registration and tracking facilities.
- Basic teaching materials. These may be the complete content of the course, if the VLE is being used in a distance learning context, or copies of visual aids used in lectures or other classes where it is being used to support a campus-based course.
- Additional resources, including reading materials, and links to outside resources in libraries and on the Internet.
- Self-assessment quizzes which can be scored automatically
- Formal assessment procedures
- Electronic communication support including e-mail, threaded discussions and a chat room, with or without a moderator
- Production of documentation and statistics on the course in the format required for institutional administration and quality control
In addition, the VLE should be capable of supporting numerous courses, so that students and instructors in a given institution (and, indeed, across institutions) experience a consistent interface when moving from one course to another.
