About Personal English
We are a small, intimate school that believes strongly in the quality of the teaching we have to offer. We are composed of three teachers - Daniel, David and Robert - who can offer over 15 years teaching experience individually. We know what works in teaching, and what doesn't. What's more important, we know when and how to change our technique to get the best from each individual.
Our experience covers all levels of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). We have worked at teacher training colleges, teaching the teachers, as well as universities. We have collaborated in the writing of books and dissertations, and have gained huge respect through our work.
We believe strongly in the teaching of individuals one-to-one, or small groups, because experience has shown us that it is the most effective and efficient way of learning English.
Advantages of Personal One-to-One Teaching
There are many good reasons why private tuition has gained popularity in recent years, principally because it can make a dramatic improvement in school performance, as well as confidence, enjoyment and motivation. Study skills and discipline can then be applied across a number of subjects.
Simply put, private tuition will dramatically increase a student's chances of success.
We have worked at state schools, and select private schools, and apart from the obvious advantages gained from better quality resources, there is one thing that stands out - the classes are smaller.
In many ways, the advantages of this are easily understood:
- More Attention to Detail
- Less Distraction
- More Focus
However, what is less understood is just how much impact these advantages have. With one-to-one classes, we can often see a massive improvement.
It is our earnest opinion, that learning English in large classes, at a cheaper price, is very much a false economy. Our results indicate this to us very strongly. 0ne hour of our time can equate to four hours of a lesser teacher's time in a full classroom.

The best teaching systems, processes and measurements won’t be of value if the student is not committed, feeling confident and motivated. It is necessary to have something extra that develops the student’s motivation and dynamism.
We call it Personal Language Development, and it’s a lot more than just teaching.
We offer something that you can’t find at any other English language school. Our teachers not only have great experience in teaching English, but also have experience in theatre, psychology, business, sports, public and service sectors.
Individual English has so much dynamism, creativity, pragmatism, corporate understanding and the talent to find solutions to the problems our students face.
It's not just teaching...
We think the word 'teaching' doesn’t exactly
catch what we do. It doesn’t describe the personal interaction
which is so fundamental to the success of our courses.
We are all different as people and our classes
and content reflect that. This means that the course has to fit
the student, rather than trying to get the students to fit the course.
Our work usually includes a look at what's the student has already learnt; recognising and acknowledging what you know. We seek to create a sense of good self-esteem, combine it with personal insight and add an understanding of how communication really works. Only from that position of 'feeling good' is it possible to look at how to move things forward in your language learning.
We don’t just ‘do’ theory. Theory is okay but it is of no use just in your head. It won’t get you anywhere. We create real life scenes for you to really learn from.
Our job is to find you the easiest, quickest and most enjoyable way of learning English. We want people to leave our classes ready and eager to continue developing their English.
